Contradanse -Tuesday night
In 1962 the addition of the old forlks dance or Contradanse (a French square dance) performed by middle-aged people to the accoumpaniment of a French band. This dance is held every year on the Tuesday night as the start of the festival. In 1975 the Cotton Royalty grew with the addition of LeRoi et LaReine de la Maison de Sante Nursing Home (the king and queen of the nursing home). An elderly couple is chosen as king & queen and they reign over the Contradanse. In 2000 along with the middle-aged dancers were a group of 4th and 5th grade children, that learned the dance and performs for the crown at the contradanse.
